Hi all, first post on this forum.

i race a 2stroke in the derby phoenix f400 championship mainly, however i want to get a road bike for a bit of fun inbetween meetings.

have located a nc30 vfr that i can get at a good price. however i no nothing about these bikes. is there anything that i need to be careful with or look at before buying one of these, are there any commons problems that are prone to around that i should check over before buying/riding?

any general info on the nc30 is much appreciated

The NC30 is a top notch machine and the only issues that are common are to do with the reg/rec and charging systems. most bikes have had a new reg/rec fitted but if you go to check a bike get a good look at the wiring and see if it shows any scorching etc.

The motors, as long as they are given regular oil changes and the valves clearances are good, seem to go on and on..

Handling wise, not as light as your RS250, but still better than pretty much everything else due to the small size of them.

Have a read around, you'll see what's what.

how much you looking to spend on a bike btw?

A grand gets you a decent working bike. 1500 gets you a bike someone looked after and 2k+ should get you a pretty ncie moto.

Value add stuff = original bodywork. Not chavvy tyga kits or race rep paintschemes.

Shocks are crap as std, brakes are great. I'll be at the DP meet in July cadwell for my first DP race in F400 and PI600 so I'll say howdy and bore you about them if you didn't get one already..lol

hmm thanks for that info. they do seem like a bit of a bitch to work on? can valvle clearances be checked easily without dismantling half the bike? hear they take expensive honda plugs aswell?

lets hope they not too bad as i can get this one for £300 and its suprisingly tidy. just needs a few cosmetic bits and its running rough around 6000rpm so guna have a closer inspection next time to see if its worth getting.

for £300 it is a bargain.

Pity only the NC24/30 were so popular, and interest in VFRs decreased after that.
As CMSMJ1 says, VFRs are bulletproof :)

think im going to get it. is there only one type of nc30 or is there ones with better/worse components eg brakes/suspension?

and is it me or do they sit quite low and have short suspension travel?

There is an early and later model. Check the adjustments on the forks, if it has the preload adjusters(spanner) as well as a smaller screwdriver slot in the centre then it's a later one. Same goes for the rear shock, the later type has an external res which sits near the right side pillion peg.
If the rear shock is knackered the rear can sometimes seem to be sitting low.

If I saw an NC30 for £300 down my road, I'd buy it tomorrow.

woop, its the newer model with the rebound and preload adjustable forks.

it has had a replacement shock put on it though with no reseviour for compressing adjustment.

are they any other oem shocks that fit that allow the rear to sit a little higher.

you can fit the RVF dogbone to raise it up somewhat. Most aftermarket shocks are slightly longer than standard anyways.

If it is sitting really low down then the rear hub may be 180 degrees out.

Get it bought

Replacement rear shock could still be good, does it have Nitron written on it!
