Hey All
Iv got a slight issue on my 35 that im not sure where to start looking to solve it, gone through all the haynes and nothing.
The fork seals went on the 35 and i had them replaced, but afterwards the steering lock wont work. I turn the bars to the side and try to put the steering lock on but the key wont turn to put the lock on.
Any ideas where to start so i can try and fix it?, iv searched around but cant find anything.
Thanks

Are you getting a full lock from side to side? If not, what is in the way? My money will be on either the clutch cable or speedo cable (or the likes) is in the way. Can you get a good pic of how much lock you have.

Just to dispell any confusion i am talking about the steering lock as in when you can lock the bike by turning the key to the left meaning the bars cant be turned stopping someone walking off with it lol. I relised looking back at the post i was a bit vague lol.
I can turn it from side to side no problem and none of the wires are snagging. Iv got a pic i took a few days ago which shows it on full lock to the left, can get another one if it helps.
Thanks

the 2 problems are probably related mate. Thats why your getting people asking you to check for snagged wires or cables as if you cant getthe steering to full lock the steering lock won't engage.
If its all been apart its worth checking the forks are totally straight. I seem to remember that there isn't much leeway between the locking pin and the lug so if the forks are even slightly on the piss they won't line up properly and the lock won't engage.

Ok thanks.
So the best thing to will be to check the forks are straight. You think it would be worth taking the yoke off and checking everything all aligns?
Sorry if im a bit of a noob with this, this is a hella of a lot harder to work on than my old RS125 lol

Hi,
Did you get the fork seals done at a bike shop? If you did and its come back with the steering lock not working, is it worth taking it back in to get them to do the job properly.
Of course, its probably just as easy to have a look yourself. The more you learn about your bike, the more you can do stuff yourself and you will find a wealth of advice on here!

Yeah they were done at a shop but tbf i would rather know how to do it myself.
I just cant get my head around what iv actually got to do lol. I think ill have a play tomorrow to make sure the forks are aligned and nothings constricted and take it from there.

Ok iv jsut had a look at it again and although the wires werent in hook things they werent contricting the movement of anything so iv just tidied them up.
Whats the next port of call to check, elrikos mentioned aligning something. Is this on the steering stem?
Thanks

Will the steering lock engage in any other position? With the front wheel pointing straight with the ignition turned off, press the key down and turn it to lock and see if the barrel wil go into the 'LOCK' position, if it does then have a took at the bottom yoke and see if something is stopping the lock-stops from touching the frame. You cannot adjust the stem, headstock, yokes, forks etc, they are fixed and even with bent forks you should still be able to engage the steering lock. What you really need to do is get some panels off and get decent pics (not dark mobile phone pics or the likes) of the steering turned completely to the left (as when sitting on the bike)
PS - not wanting to teach you to suck eggs, but you are pushing the key down to get it into the lock position.
