Howdy guys :)
I have just got my first RVF 400
It's a 1998 model R reg and I want to put some new tyres on it, ideally Pirelli or Metzeler ones.
Can someone tell me what size tyres I need for this bike please.
Many thanks,
Matt :)

OK now am worried
My bike has the following tyres on :
1997 RVF400
Front - 120/60 R17
Rear - 150/60 R
18
But this site :
http://www.honda-decals.com/96-98-rvf400.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; says it should have these on :
Front - 120/60 17
Rear - 150/60
17
How come my bike has a tyre for a 18" rear wheel when it says on that site it should be for a 17" wheel ?
I hope someone can clear this up for me as I am unsure what size tyres I need to order now, the ones on that site or the ones on the bike ?
Many thanks.
Matt :)

Sounds like you have a VFR NC30 rear wheel fitted....yours should indeed have 17" wheels front and back.

Oh no ya jokin !
I best get this wheel off then and get another (sigh) I bet it would be dangerous with this bigger wheel on then, man not happy, not happy at all
Do you know if its a straight exchange ? will the correct wheel fit ? oh man now I gotta get a new wheel and get both front and rear powder coated, damn why can't people be straight with you when they sell you something

A lot of nc30 owners fit the rear wheel of the RVF but have never heard it the other way round...i think you have to have a spacer made to align the chain but that could be with the wheel off a VFR 750 not too sure

...i would think if you get the RVF rear it will go straight back on though

Supercorsa's, Bridgestone BT090 and dunlop alpha 10's seem to be the choice for NC's. i have supercorsa's on mine right now and their great

Thats a strange one.. like somebody has said.. its usually NC30 owners putting the NC35 wheel on their bikes to give them a 17" rear wheel!
I can only stab in the dark as to why your bike has an incorrect wheel.. maybe the original was damaged and either that wheel was all that was available, or brought in error? who knows? It is an NC35 right? (upside down forks? air ducts from the top of the tank?)
However, the 'bad' news is that the NC35 rear wheel is popular as it fits the NC35 AND the NC30 so they do fetch quite a bit of cash.
Bridgestone BT090's are widely acclaimed as being a great tyre, the BT092 is similar but more 'mileage' orientated than for racing.
The BT016 is also available now, it's more expensive than the BT90/92 but I think, judging by bridgestones catalogue it's the most 'race orientated' tyre your going to get for the bike...

If anything it will handle better than a standard rvf, just the same as if you'd raised the rear height using the hrc shim.
There's plenty of tyre choice for 18" rears out there. Plus they look better!
If I owned an rvf I would probably sell the 17" rear for an 18" to fund better goodies for the bike...

Amen to that, and i thought i was the only one who thought like this, there are loads of 18" tyres for the road, and i just cant see the appeal of NC's putting a 17" on then fitting a 090 as per typical what most do.
also the RVF will steer very nicely with the 18"
maybe keep the 17" with a BT92 for winter and tame it down a bit but apart from that the better look of the 18" would be worth the "upgrade"
