Hi,I fitted a new pickup cover bought off ebay with my original pickup, but bike wont fire up now.The cover is slightley different along front edge.Are there different ones for this bike.Mine is a jap import 1991. Also tied to start it with green/yellow wire from gear position switch to CDi dissconnected,could this have knackered my CDi.

Hi Nick,
d'nt think the cdi will be knackered but you will need the wire connected. You can derestrict with this wire later but for now read the problems Reggit had with his B4, there are different covers/rotors for different models and maybe you have the same prob.

Nick, got your email - my spam filter had disposed of it and not been on here for a while.

The covers should interchange. I've got a 1989 engine in my 1993 Bandit, fitted with the 93 cover.

What are your symptoms?

Does it spin over on the starter?
Does it cough at all?
Have you checked for a spark?
Why did you need to change the pickup cover - read that the original was cracked (ignore that one)

My guess is that you've damaged the pickup, or it isn't plugged in or fitted correctly as this appears the only area you've worked on.
I'd want to pull one of the plugs and check for a spark to verify.

Hi

I rebuilt the carbs too as number one cylinder seemed to fill up with petrol when thrashed and the down pipe from that cylinder seemed cool compared with the other three.

There is a spark but seems to go weak after a few spins.

When trying to start it, it spins over for a while then coughs back through carbs and then backfires through exhaust, but does start after a while and runs fine till you turn it off,then it wont start again for ages.

Just stripped carbs again and got an O ring kit to fit at weekend, so got fingers crossed.

I am in Doncaster.

The o-rings should sort it.

That was the same issue I had for a while. When you put the plastic float assembly back it, lubricate the orings with something (I used carb cleaner) to let them slide in their fittings, otherwise they can be a sod to get in. Mine didn't seat properly the first time i did it, resulting in the engine just spinning over for ages before it would start. Re did them and it started fine.

Number one cylinder filling up when thrashed is a sure sign the diaphragm on your petrol tap is dodgy letting petrol through the vacuum line.

well!!! rebuilt carbs with new o rings, tried to start it, noticied fuel coming out of number 4 carb pilot jet,checked o rings and i had nipped a couple so replaced them again.
It spun over but just kept backfiring through exhaust,after about half hour it fired up and ran fine but number one down pipe was cool compared with others. Turned it off and it took another half hour to start and on full choke. When revving it the sliders in carbs seemed to flutter. pilot jets set at 1.5 turns out,i have a dynojet kit fitted. Any ideas anyone,seems to run fairly ok once started but a bastard to start,always used to start first time. Spark seems ok.

Still no good nick? you got to go over it again. A pain in the arse but you must just be missing somthing.
