I am trying to prepare my budget race bike, but I still have the full instrument panel / clocks in place. All I want is a RPM counter and Temp Guage.

Will the speedo and instrument lights separate, or is it a complete unit?

It separates, but you'll need a derestrictor in place as unplugging the speedo will cut spark to 2 cylinders above 5000 rpm if you don't derestrict it using a resistor.

Good idea to keep the neutral and oil bulbs also.

can be fitted behind speedo or at the ECU end of the bike.

At the moment I am running the bike with the full set of clocks, but I have removed the speedo drive from the gearbox end. The speedo no longer works and no restriction seems to be in place.

If the speedo is not plugged in then how does the speed limit restrictoin kick in?

Iif you only removed the speedo drive cable the limiter is still plugged in behind the clocks and the ECU thinks all is well.
inside your speedo is a light trap type sensor, it waits for a disk (operated by the drive cable, which you disconnected) to break the beam which sends a signal to the ECU to shut down 2 spark plugs. this normally happens at 112mph or 180Kph.
now this will no longer happen as you have disabled the speedo drive. if your happy with that. it will work.
the kit in the link can plug in to the loom behind the speedo or you can solder it in to the loom at the ECU end (best for track day bikes), this fools the ECU in to thinking all is well even if the clocks are removed completely.

there is 1 cable that comes out the back of the speedo and plugs in to a 3 pin connector that slots in the back of the clocks. this is where you can plug the de-limiter in and cut away the speedo part of the clocks as i believe you still want the rev counter and temp gauge?

I never got round to separating the clocks in the end...

I think they are one complete unit and do not separate?, so looks like I'll have to leave them.

Ring Graeme France i remember him telling me that they could be taken apart as i was going to swap speedo clocks as the needle on mine flutters a little and doesnt rest at 0mph.
What have you got to lose, oh and if you do take it apart can i have your speedo as it has only done a few more miles than mine has.

is that what they call it these days lol.. mine bounces a good 10mph at times, the bumpier the road the worse it is! seems to settle after 80mph!

having had my own dash/clocks open. i dont see how you can separate the NC29 dash with out butchering it...???

maybe a how to can be created from this and submitted to the site.

Pity, I thought all of these style of dash were able to be separated.

2 options:

- Buy an nc30 dash and refit all of your internals, as they can be separated from the speedo/idiot light cluster (tacho internals aren't compatible)

- Take a hacksaw to yours!
