Hey everyone, bought my 3TJ about 6 months ago, been using it alot lately and really like the bike, passed MOT last week with just a sticking throttle needing sorting.

1st question is how can i test if the reserve switch is working?

Also does anyone on here used to own/know the owner of my bike, reg G3**NVF? i know its unlikely but no harm in asking.

Rob

Well .... carry a small amount of petrol in an unbreakable container and run the bike to reserve. I get about 130-140 miles to a tank, so fill it up and zero the trip odometer so you'll know when to expect it.

Couldn't say I know your bike - where did you buy it, what colour is it (black ones are faster) are there any different markings on it ??

I bought it from a guy called Andy in Gloucester, owner before was from Lincoln way, its been in UK since 1997.

I've been filling it up and doing approx 160km before a refill, don't want to risk anymore.

I live in Loughborough Leicestershire and a few of the old MOT certs are from a garage in Melton Mowbray which is not far from me.

Glad its not your old one then

I'm surprised how well it rides for a 19 year old (no jokes please  )

I've got a 1986 RD350 aswell and you wouldn't think the FZR is only 4 years newer, think it looks like a more modern bike although i suppose if the FZR was parked next to a new R6 i might think different?

The RD was an old bike redone it's frame was similar to the aircooled model. Of course yours would be a Powervalve ... maybe a F2 if it had the fairing, I think that was the 86 model ... with the bean can expansion chambers.

The 3TJ on the other hand wasn't just all new, it was in Yamaha's home market so you can see styling cues that didn't get here for a few years on the FZR1000 RU and the frame still has bits used in the R1.

You got it in one, it is an F2 model, 86 was the first year the F2 was available, its in the usual red/white colours
