Standard nc30... help needed to get it running better.

Hello all, i am new on here and have just brought a standard nc30. the bike is in excellent condition and looks gr8.
However, the acceleration and throttle response in crap, when accelerating, the revs are slow it wont pull as hard as it should, when the throttle is wide open, it will take ages for any power to kick in, even then it will be a little stop/start etc.

I understand that from standard it wont be great so will need a few modifications like an exhaust and filter etc, but i have read alot of post explaining different tips like washers on needles, cutting away air scoop in front of airbox, upjetting, and so on. Will a full system make that much difference than just a can, is it worth the money?

Could someone please clear up exactly what mods can be done to get it quicker and smoother, what mods work well with others, and which ones to stay clear of. Cheers, Luke.

The best place I can suggest to start is with a full service plugs filters etc etc if you want to go down the route of a free flow filter then put one in during the service, once you have done this book it into your local dyno centre and have it sorted if again if your thinking of putting an exhaust on the bike put this on before the dyno session, the operator will then set the jetting to suit and if there are any other probems hiding in there then generally he will find them !

Once you have this as a base point then you should start looking into extra HP with other modifications although if you are using the bike for the road a exhaust and filter will give you quite a good result !

I would check if it has the 33bhp restriction first of all. Washers under the carbs - it sounds like yours could be as even a standard, old and tired bike will normally rev it's ass off and pull very well.

Exhaust systems are great, setting the bike on a dyno with std filter is a good call. foam filters cause ballahce for setup.

get it lighter if you can!

hmmm, good points but im sure its not restricted... ive had it at bwt 130/135 mph (on private road). However it doesnt have the de-restrictor box. Does anyone know how to upload picts on here?

Has it been stood for a while? Sounds like it needs the carbs checking over and seeing what the setup is in there.

Pics- use photobucket and paste the [IMG] bits into your reply. (see the newbie section on it as well)

A good service and putting it back to std settings should give you a good place to start from.

let's have some pics and some ideas on the current jetting and airbx setup.

non std airbox will make it run nasty...

Perhaps I should be clearer with the airbox / filter business

Use standard airbox but replacement filter K&N or similar if nothing else they last a lot longer and guarentee theres no air restriction if looked after properly !

Generally if the dyno operator can't get a good run the first place he will head is into the carbs, speak to them first explain your problems get an idea of cost, its not cheap but will without fail sort it out, the more work (if you are mechanically minded) you put in the lower the cost, i.e checking the carbs servivcing etc - theres plenty of good advice on here and how to's photio's etc, as Mark says show us the bits and helps at hand !

If you don't know already any good operators ask here I can only comment on a couple in south yorkshire which I use, but theres plenty people on here who can help in other areas but its important to you that they are friendly and helpful when you first approach them, most are really good but there are a few !!!!

well, i have rang a dyno man and he says that it could be overfueling do to worn needles etc. im not convinced im sure it needs carbs balanced and maybe running lean. But i will try to upload some pictures so that some of u fellow vfr owners can shed some light, what pics should i be uploading?
