intermittant neutral light

Post by frankie55 »

Hi guys im hopin you can help me,

when i start my bike from cold (nc35) the neutral light works as it should but as the bike heats up the neutal light starts to flicker then it goes completely so when im in neutral the light stays out and if i put my sidestand down she cuts out.. i checked all the connections the wire routing over the engine and removed and cleaned the switch itself, no joy?

is the sensor itself in need of replacement?

if you have exhausted all possibilities and tested the switch then you should have got relevant test results to show you the switch is faulty.you can test it for continuity and voltage, have you done these checks?

i just got my first multimeter the other day so i'll give the tests a bash, it will just be a bit tricky as the problem only arrises when the engine is hot

My nc30 does the same, have just fitted a new neutral switch, will let you know if this cures it!

It's usually the globe, the contacts get bent and worn in the rubber socket.

Had this problem on my CB500.
Normally removing the switch and giving it a good flushing out of the internals with an electrical cleaning spray works, failing that file 0.25-0.5mm off the mounting washer to allow for a worn tip on the switch to sit in further.

Hi all just an update on this,

i swapped out the switch from my nc30 into the nc35 and after a test drive can confirm the exact same thing happening so that rules out the switch, another thing is when the engine is hot and the neutral light isn't working, if i move the gear lever up or down a little the light comes on so im thinking its something in the gear change mechanisism that has worn or needs adjustment, anyone out there know how this works ?

Cheers again

Or to make up for worn parts in the box if it flickers.
Got to be worth a go!

Hi there peeps, sorry to drag up an old thread but I need your help!

I took my wife's NC30 to have the chain and sprockets replaced and noticed that the bike is suffering from the symptoms described above, which didn't go down to well when I stalled it coming out of the NCP and couldn't get the beast to fire up although the bike was in neutral (bike doesn't start in gear - safety mechanism?)... After lots of faffing around I realised that if I apply a small amount of pressure to the gear lever (up or down) the light would come on and I could start the bike. What can I do to resolve this problem?
