Suspension upgrades and exhaust question's NC24
Hello guys im looking at replacing the spring for the rear shock as it needs a strip down and clean. What are your thoughts on trying to raise the rear of the bike? I have heard that this can improve the handling? but a bit unsure of what it may look like. (apart from higher)
anybody done this before?
what spring would you recommend im going to be using the bike for commuting and weekend ride outs so im gonna need a fairly good all rounder, if not i will compromise comfort for handling.
The other reason for asking about raising the back up is so that i can get an exhaust made up / made to fit under the seat (centre exit.) Im looking at modding a cbr600rr exhaust to fit. then hopefully i can go for a wider back wheel and tyre.
Thoughts on this please. As im at a point now where i need to start getting these things sorted before i rebuild the bike.
Cheers all
steve

I have no idea on the spring but fitting a harder weight spring will not really raise the rear in the way you want. You need a longer shock for that..
I would keep it as standard as possible too - at the end of the day it is a 20+ yr old 400cc moto - no point trying to polish a turd and so std pipes, std wheels etc and spend the money saved on some fun like a trackday!!
I am a performance over looks kind of person so make it work as Honda wanted it to and then ride it..

Good honest advice, cheers chap although i hope it isnt gonna be a turd
I think you are right i was just thinking about different things before i get to the rebuild stage that i am nearly at, and just want to eliminate any silly ideas now rather than regreting them later.

Making up an underseat exhaust will be expensive and complicated. You will not only have to make up said exhaust system but also modify or replace the rear subframe, seat, side panels, and rear lamp assembly in order to make it fit.If it was me I would just fit a better quality shock absorber and some heavier duty fork springs and enjoy riding it as it is.Do not forget it is already one of the best handling machines on the road.

The above idea has now been scrapped.
I think i am now going to concentrate on getting the bike back to as good a condition as possible.
Thanks for the advice guys

I used to say that a lot too!duncan wrote:.Do not forget it is already one of the best handling machines on the road.
Been riding a near standard 58 plate ZX6R (power commander and 2 brothers exhaust) but suspension / brakes are stock items and it's light years ahead of the 24 and 35.
Still love riding 80's bikes though.. can't beat some vintage gear, reminds me of better times :D
