You need to pm oolit. He makes a conversion kit so the shock will fit straight in.

Ok then, just been down the garage armed with the camera. The top of the shock mounts on the frame cross member to the front of the seat under the rear of the tank.

This is how it looks with a standard rr shock. The r6 shock will fit the top mount but requires collars fitting as the top bolt hole is smaller on the r6.

This is the r6 shock fitted on my hybrid. The top mount is a bit beefier but that is only because it is from a later model.

This is the bottom of a standard rr shock.

This is the adapter plates that oolit makes fitted to the bottom of the r6 shock(sorry the picture isn't too good!). The r6 shock is shorter than the 400rr shock so the bracket makes up the length. It bolts to the shock then uses the normal mounting point on the pivot. With oolits adapter there is no need to change the dogbones.
Hope this helps!

Thanks tim just what i needed,
now looking at your top mount on the r6 shock it looks like it is ally,
the shock i have looks the same as yours but has a steel top mount and the thread is shorter,i got it of ebay it is an r6 shock but maybe it was fitted to something else.
is there a speicial nut that screws into the frame mount for the top of the shock as the frame is threaded.

The r6 top mount will not bolt through the frame as it is too short, thats why you have to use the one from the 400. Your frame may have been modified as mine is not threaded, the threaded part of the top mount simply passes through the frame and is fastened at the top with a nut. The top mount fitted to mine is actually steel, its hard to see in the photo but it is slighty rusty!
The shocks most of us have used are from the 07 r6.
What are your intentions with the frame, is it going to be another hybrid?

You need the top bracket of the standard shock. It will fit straight into the mount hole. Not sure if that is threaded, just looks machined in the photo! If you ask someone on here may well have a spare bracket along with any other bits you may need.
That looks to be the same shock as i fitted. You will have to reduce the spring preload to the lowest setting.
How far have you got with the 660 motor conversion? I have got all the top end for mine but am still trying to find a 3he bottom end at a reasonable price to pull to pieces! And are you doing any port work/tuning to the head? Will be interested to compare notes/figures!

I've got the 4JH engine, pistons and a 3HE crank ... oh and won some carbs on the bay.
