No, i make no special engine, i use this plugs in my engine. I got them from my neighbour who work in the ssp 600 world champion chip.
I don´t know that this plugs are so expensive. I found the plugs here in Germany
for 26.-€

But it is too much.

I'm using them (R847-10's), the bike runs like clockwork.
I got mine NOS from Japan for cheap. Once these go I have no more.

Are these surface discharge plugs and if so what is the benefit?

better plugs have a reduced spark time (the total time for a spark to happen), shorter spark time means the fuel will be more compact when it ignites creating a cleaner burn, more energy pushing the piston down and less likely of leaving unburnt fuel to escape out the zorst so generally more efficient
