Foxeye front sprocket.

Post by Alex. »

Guys,

Would a 13 tooth front sprocket be ok to use on my 3TJ/foxeye hybrid?

I'm just a little concerned about the tight bend for the chain or any strain it may put on the gearbox. The chain is a 520 and the rear sprocket would be a 45 tooth, it came with a race bike.

I don't do many miles each year, if that makes any difference!

Didnt know you could get a 520 13 front for the 600 motor. How much do they cost, no doubt a lot cheaper than replacing the renthal rear like i was just about to.

So, a 13 tooth sprocket is available.
But is it a wise choice to use one on the road?

its all about ratios! take a look at the table and see what ratio you get, 13/45 sounds like something that would be used for acceleration/low end grunt rather than top end, but i may be wrong

Im currently using (520 chain) 14 front 44 rear. When i converted the sprocket sizes from the standard foxeye road gearing i worked it out to 14 front 45 rear. I happened upon a 44 rear and used that. I think on the road it would be ok but when i had mine dyno'd it was doing 150 in 5th. I was going to change the rear, but not now i know you can get a 13 front. I want more acceleration for the track.

With a 13 tooth front sprocket, will there be any possible issues with the swingarm?

As the chain will be closer to the swingarm, will it rub too much and wear through the rubber runner and into the metal of the arm?
