I was a member a few years back riding an NC30, and i've just invested in a 1997 RVF!

The problem is, that the speedo reads low. And it seems to be exponential, i.e its further out
the faster you go.
I took a look at the speedo today, removed the cable at the top, and flushed plenty of oil down it, then removed it
at the bottom, and found the spring/wire was running smoothly inside the cable. The cable itself seems to be in good
working order, including the attachments at the bottom end.
The bike was imported by BAT Motorcycles, and it has a mph speedo face, but as far as i could tell everything else about
the speedo was standard.

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated,

check your sprockets, cant remember what the standard gearing is but it'll be in the manual.
Sounds like its been geared for higher top speed, god knows why as its takes some doing getting it to redline in top with the standard gearing

If it's got a mph face, ie a dial from re-dial et al, then you have to take the needle off to remove the dial, sounds like whoevers changed the dial hasn't put it back together properly.

There a right pain in the arse to set right (if anyone knows of an easy way to set the needle in the right spot, PLEASE let me know)

The way i do it now is to mark the rear speed disc against the underside of the clock so i have a reference point, without it, it's trial and error.

if the cables / cogs etc are ok, pull the needle off and move it!

Ask somebody else with an rvf how much mph it does per 1000rpm in top and then you could work out your speed from the rev-counter.The nc21/24 does approximately 10mph per 1000rpm in top so it is a fairly easy calculation.My BMW on the other hand is nearer 15mph.I would imagine that the nc35 is about the same as the nc21/24 but I im,agine an nc35 owner on here will correct me

yup RVF is roughly 1000rpm per 10mph in top gear (with standard gearing - 15 front and 38 rear IIRC)

one more thing - the plastic white part that the speedo cable connects to in the speedo drive (the non-clock end of the cable) - this often gets mashed - is it ok?
