hey there, i have recently got my hands on a vfr 400 nc30 and runs sweet as a nut, but after my first long run i stopped and the bike would not go into neutral. after trying for a while i realised it was the neutral light that was ot coming on, and now it will n ot start unless i hold in the clutch.......

anyone have any much needed friendly advice??

when you say it will not start, do you mean the starter doesn't operate when you press the starter button because there is a safety switch on the clutch so you have to pull it in to start it. As for the light, im afraid i cant help you with that one.

Are you sure it's in neutral when trying to start? my nc30 doesn't like going into neutral once it's hot and the engine is running, stopping the engine is the only way to get it in sometimes...

There is a neutral wtich on the back of the engine - look behind the oil filler cap and on the back ace of the engine - a black wire. Also, these little V4s are gits to get into neutral usually - a little blip of the throttle when sotting it in will see you right.

if the lamp is not coming on then it is a jiggle the conections in the housing kind of deal..

Phew, makes me feel a lot better. I thought I was just being cack-handed.

as cm say's,wriggle around with the wire going to the neutral switch,this use to work a treat with mine.

the light would come on and would not start but after messing around with the wire the light would come back on.

it is definetly in neutral when i try to start it. i am going to get on with all the advice tonight and i will get back to you an let you know how it goes!!

your clutch switch is ok then ^_^

The wire to the neutral switch is probably corroded as it's in a place where dirt and debris can get trapped, I cut mine off, replaced the connector and filled the connector with water resistant grease before I put it back on.. been fine ever since as if memory serves correct its just a bit of plastic tubing over the original connector to keep out the crap.

Hiya, i dont want to hiyack the thread but were is the neutral switch( i'm guessing it near the front sprocket)? i not been well enough to look recently due to me neck probs but i love to fix it when i get a bit better( and it'd be nice to not have to start the bike with the clutch in all the time!).
