17" wheel conversion

Post by randallbass »

hey guys i currently have a vfr400 race bike with the standard 18" wheel, i have modified the rear linkage to jack up the rear and am very happy with the handling of the bike.
i am worried that when i put the 17" wheel on with the back sitting 1" lower that i wont like the handling.
i have heard you can get a rvf400 dogbone and this sorts it out, is this true?
or is there another trick to this :)
cheers guys

i am going to do the same to my bike. I spoke to Rick Oliver 01603720387 ( after 5pm ), he will be able to help and sell you the RVF dog bone that you will need.

Your `1" lower` comment is based on some wrong assumptions - the difference is in diameter, not radius so at worst the back will be 1/2" lower but in fact the difference in radius between a 150/60-18 tyre and a 160/60-17 is only around 5 - 8mm depending on tyre brand. If you`re using 160 race tyres with a `pointy` profile the difference will be even less...
