those dam eletrical gremlins again ...

Post by royster81 »

hey guys ,

i started my bike up yesterday after a few weeks of it sitting gathering dust and to my surprise i saw this ....!

the bike starts and rev normally but the guage says it's idling at 4K and not 1.8K,so i revved the bike and it revs up to 9K but it sounds as though it's only revving to around 5K.it sems the clocks are always 4/5K out ?!?!?!?!?!

i swapped out the CDI and it made no difference.
i swapped the clocks and that cured it so am i right in thinking the problem is going to be with the earthing connectors at the back of the clocks ?

has anyone had this before and what did it take to fix it ?

this has came as a big of a kick in the balls as the bike is nearly ready to go back out on the road ! :dmyspt:

90% of the time issues with the tacho are to do with a poor earth.which in your case seems to be the culprit.

or it could have been the tacho on it's way out,you should have maybe tried cleaning the earth up to se if it made any difference first.

I've had this, found it was the earth at the back of the tacho, clean & tighten and it'll be fine.

i cleaned the connections and it made no difference.
i swapped out the rev counter for the other one i had to rule out a fault in the loom behind the clocks and it's gone, so i figure the rev count is the guilty party.

very strange ,i thought the counter would either work or not work, not this i'm going to work 4K outta line bollocks.

so i guess i'll be shopping for a new rev counter then !!!!!
