Depending on manufacturer you may have problems with the wheel hitting the mudguard, especially under high fork compression

I used one once and it hit the radaitor guard under heavy braking.
You might get away with it, you might not.

i would leave wel alone,as stickshift and neo say's it will foul parts under heavy braking.
it will be a tight fit clearing the mudguard,if it does.

It all depends on the tyre and how you ride.
The only reason i'd personally use a 120/70/17 is if there was a specific tyre I wanted to use that I couldn't get in standard profile, is this the case?
If so then it might be feasible to move / adjust whatever catches. If not i'd stick to standard and spend the money on improving other part(s) of the bike.

i have heard of plenty of racers using this tyre without any problems. now if you have standard fork springs you are gonna have a problem, but if you are taking it to track, front and rear suspension should be your first mods anyhows. and for track, suspension is usually set stiffer.
mudguard from what i have been told is a problem, but all you have to do there is some longer bolts and stick plenty of washer (to act as spacers). not yet tried this, but makes sense.
i will be using this tyre size for track days this year, as i can get cheap ex racers that size.
if you have the likes of a fork uprate kit from rick oliver on the site like myself, in addition he also does a anti-bottoming out kit for the forks which may be useful for you even for extra piece of mind.
cheers
