the general train of thought is to use the gold label cdi as it bypasses any issues with the other mods, basically plug and play, i do have 2 cdi's one blue, modified by mr france and a gold label.

"all the cables are plugged in so i can't see what the problem is"
thats your prob...
if you fitted the de-limiter mod.. (where?) you no longer need the speedo plugged in to the loom.
if fitted behind speedo in to main loom, you cant plug the speedo back in.
if fitted at ECU, unplug speedo from main loom as its no longer needed.
If fitted behind speedo in to main loom, the dash fuse will still affect things if its blown. look behind LHS top side panel for a black box on NC29...
check the fuses anyway.
if fuse is ok and you dont have the speedo plugged in to main loom... start checking back from the speedo the wires towards the ECU, look for broken, loose, corroded, burnt etc wires. inc bad earths.

right just to clarify things a little...
I tried the resistor mod... fitted it at the cdi end of the loom as per instructions.
i've now removed it and reconnected the black connector (i had the speedo removed from the loom when doing this mod btw *LP im not having a rant =] * )
so no matter what i try the bike will cut out 2 cylinders at around 5500 revs
any advice?
Many thanks,
Adam.

i know.. i had someone else forget to unplug the speedo before you see..
its got to be a broken wire somewhere between the speedo and ECU as the signal from the speedo is being disrupted and making the ECU go in to restriction mode at 5k rpm.
i dont know what symptoms are for a ECU on its way out, but id think that it would do a lot less than let the bike run at all..
Just wondering who closer to you has a NC29... Si has a CBR, think its a NC29 but he maybe out on the oil Rigs at the mo.

and both cdi's i have are 23

sod the mods the gold label cures your issues and gives a better power delivery, i know this because it solved the same problem you're having that i used to have.

Just an update...
it seems it was the 33bhp restrictors that were causing the problem

i took them out and took the bike for a very short spin (down the road and back *GULPS*)... Yess the restrictors will be going back in... just seems i have to get the carbs rejetted for them damn things

*1 year to go btw :D *
however ive found white gunky stuff at the engine breather in the airbox

could this be the sign of a blown headgasket? what else other symptoms should i look out for?
the oil was only changed a few weeks ago and it the old oil came out normal
if the headgasket is gone what else would i be looking at replacing with the gasket itself *please don't tell me i have to get a new engine lol*
Many thanks,
Adam.

there was a thread about the white goo in the air box just last week.....
i have it in my air box and i am NOT worried about it.
its just a small amount mixed with what water was already in the corner.
if the oil in the engine was milky.. then id worry...
if you want, drain the bike in to a container, see what colour it is, if its fine, put it back in.
