Does anyone know if it is possible to fit an NC30 tank on an NC24 successfully?

I am having a nightmare trying to source a tank for my NC24. Genuine part is £417+vat which is almost as much as I paid for the bike itself.

If this question is already posted somewhere, soz but the search isn't working.

I know it's not much help now but there was a tank on eBay the other day that went for £50.00

Whats wrong with the thank, isn't it repairable? Checking the Forsale section of the forum, eBay and local bike breakers is probably going to be the cheapest option.

Have you had a look in the ForSale section under parts? Theres a guy breaking an NC24 at the moment, it's on the first page.

I don't think the NC30 tank will fit very well as its a different shape and the panels fit differently, but most things can be 'made' to fit, give it a go if you can get a cheap NC30 tank to play around with! Let me know how it goes if you take that route.

It was pissing out fuel. It was just below the shut off so I thought it may be that. However I have now found that there is a leak on the tank itself.

Will get a better pic next time i'm down the garage.

I have now emptied the tank and removed the tap.

Any help repairing would be great as I have never worked on a tank before.

I had the same problem with my nc24 tank. Mine was leaking from the seam just under the shut off tap on the left handside. I used a product similar to what you have found called flow liner. Its a two part epoxy which you use to line the inside of the tank and it will fill all the small pinholes. I got it from http://www.cwylde.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hiya, you could try and lead solder the leak up if you can get the hole clean enough, but use an iron not a blow torch! if its the seem thats gone then try some of the air curing resin tank repair like in the link, i used some on me brother inlwas petty tank to stop the rust getting in the petrol. It works fine just make sure you wash all the fuel and rust out first and it dry reaaly well (i washed it out with a load of washine machine detergent and really hot water).

Thanks for your responses guys. Very helpful. Whats the best way to ensure the tank is clean enough for this to work well. I had an absolute nightmare getting the fuel out.

Unfortunatly there is no quick fix and it will be a little time consuming gettin all the rust out. One trick i used was to get a few small ball bearings and use them to dislodge as much of the surface rust as possible. Not to insult ure intelligence but count them in and make sure you get them all back out. This should deal with most of the larger flakes of rust and the tank sealant should take care of the rest. When i sorted my tank out i stripped the paint away to find the leak and filled the hole with chemical metal. Its just like body filler but its resistant to petrol its easy enough to get hold of from halfords etc.

my mate used that stuff from frost on his zxr tank when it had a small hole in the bottom of it.
its been done over a year now, and its still fine.
just put some chemical metal, or araldite over the hole first, and should work a treat then. :)

Ooh i've seen quite a few tanks over here go like that yet not come across many in Japan. Are you lot removing the tank rubbers and the vibration ruining the tanks?

I think you've already asked if theres a tank still available in the forsale section? A good tank is always going to better than a repaired one :-)

I just bought the bike recently as a project. I did notice though that there were no tank rubbers. Not good!!

I'm a n00b when it comes to mechanics and want to do as much myself as I can.
