Help needed from those who have completed the Aprilia shock

Post by white wings »

So I got the 2004 aprilia RS250 shock off a guy here in the states for dirt cheap but now I find myself lookinng for the numbers. For those that have completed the shock swap I ask for your assitance on the following.

1) What exaclty needs to be completed other than the spring swap
2) What weight spring should be used
3) How should I best describe what needs to be done to the Shock techs that will be rebuilding the unit for me.

I weight 195 with all my gear on and the NC35 is substantialy heavier than the RS250 so I need to relay as accurate of info to the tech as possible. He won't have my bike to complete the rebuild, only a shock Dyno based on the numbers I provide.

Please post the response as well as sending me an email if you don't mind.

1) What exaclty needs to be completed other than the spring swap

A>> The word on the street is that you want an addtional shim on the rebound stack. This as the stiffer spring you will need to fit will overwhelm the standard range of adjustment without this shim.

2) What weight spring should be used

A>> No idea - I was 15st when I had mine done - so approx 154lbs? that right? 95 Kilos? Anyways - the spring I got was an 875lbs/in.

3) How should I best describe what needs to be done to the Shock techs that will be rebuilding the unit for me.

A>> I would tell them that you want it set up with the additional shim, fresh oil, seals, very clean and a slightly longer than stock remote res hose (mine could be 10mm longer and would be much better).

Hope that helps!
