I took it off as I'm (still) doing my valve clearances....the front one says 'IN' on it, does that mean the 'IN' part is on the inside of the V(4), over the top of the front inlet valves?

yeah thats correct.

the front valve cover is to be fitted with the in facing to the back........facing the inlet side!!!!


and the rear one is to be fitted with the breather hose union facing the front......
