Alright. My NC30 hasn't been charging right, so I've been out with the multimeter this morning.

Voltage across the battery seems fine - 14V at 5000rpm.

I tried at the 3 wires coming from the alternator to the regulator and they seem OK for continuity, about 0.5ohms between each and no continuity to ground. The voltage readings were a bit funny though. All about 10 to 15volts at idle, but at 5000rpm, they were 40, 40 and 5 volts. Do you think the coils need replacing?

Does anyone have any spare ones?

deffo killed your generator mate. I think electrex do them for £80 or so? Or get one from geoff33 on here as he is a good lad!

I'll bet it has cripsy bits on the generator coils for sure...

what problems have you experienced with your charging system?

the output of the alternator should be 3 seperate readings of 50volts,they should all be the same and if any are below 50 or different from each other then the alternator is faulty.

yours sounds as if it is faulty.....

how did you test the alternator?im guessing you done it correctly as you got 40,40,5.

when you remove the alternator you will probably find that part of it will be burnt out.

have you experienced that battery going flat,i would have expected a charge rate of 14v to be enough for the time being.

mine was as low as 13v and would charge the battery just,but when i used my lights the battery would drain faster than it was getting charged.

I'm having a similar problem to yours, Will. It's fine if I ride it in the day, but after a long ride with the lights on, I can't start it. I've got a trickle charger now, so I'm getting by. I tested the alternator on the 200 volts AC setting, I'm pretty sure the readings are right.

I'll try and get in tough with Geoff33, if not, I found them on electrex.
