Raised shock link, does this remove shock travel?
I am looking at various options of improving the bikes handling.
One of these is to use an after market shock (hagon maybe) with the modified linkage, thus making the rear end higher improving the bikes ability to 'turn in'.
Does using the shortened linkage remove some of the shock absorbers travel?
Is it noticable? Would i be better of buying a shock that is height adjustable?
It's shame that the old site isn't accessable as i would have found all the information there.
Thanks in advance.

Raising the rear using the linkage does not remove travel for the shock. It alters the leverage ratio slightly that will affect the suspension bt not enough that "normal" people, like you and me, would notice.
What is wrong with the handling now that you think a raised ride height will cure?

Re: Raised shock link, does this remove shock travel?
Thanks for the repy CMSMJ1,
As for whats wrong with the current handling, thats a good question.
There are a few things wrong with the bikes handling. The bike tends to see-saw and takes time to settle over bumpy roads. It feels very soft and i think the majority of it is down to tired/worn components. These i will be seeing too, starting with new fork bushes, seals and oil. The second fix is the rear shock... this is where the linkage comes into play..
I can buy a direct replacement shock and see how that feels. Hopefully it will be a massive improvement, but if i want to take it further i would then try the shorter linkage. See if this gives the sharper feel that has been mentioned in the old forum.
The other option is to buy a height adjustable shock and see how the bike feels at both settings.
I am trying to see what option will give me the best results. Do you think the raised suspension is not a worthy mod?

Re: Raised shock link, does this remove shock travel?
I think raising the rear is a good call. I have the RS250 shock (which you can get in a height adjustable format if you so desired..I have the std one) which is longer thant he std NC shock.
The bike feels superb with it and it is easliy the best mod I have done to my bike ..and I have done most of them
with regards the linkage I would not get hung up on it - get a shock first that works and has damping etc. My original shock was the non remote res version and would fade as it got hotter...very bad indeed.
You can sort the dogbones out yourself with a drill and pop the additonal holes into the bars yourself. Or, you can ask V4_chris about his adjustable linkage - it is threaded bar and rose joints and looks like a decent bit of kit...and proably cheap enough too.

I've seen V4_Chris linkage, its a nice solution.
I thought that if you was the modify the original dog bone it would require some welding as the new hole fouled the original. Is that not correct?

About travel lenght
If you shorten the linkage or get a longer shock you will have a bigger wheel to undertray distance... so it will be possible to have a longer shock travel.
