As the title says is it possible to run just one throttle cable instead of two? seems uncommon to have two anyway?

Yep, ditch the return cable.

I've never used one. It makes carb removal/installation less fiddly, and you can then use virtually any throttle tube if you decide to change the standard throttle.

I view the return cable as Honda covering their backside in the event of a (nearly unheard of!) throttle spring break.

Same here, I only run one on my road bike, and there was only one on my track bike too. I have 2 on the 750, but that's because there's no need to remove the return cable. No point in trying to fix something that's not broke. If it's still in there, then leave it.

When i last had the carbs off, i was in a dilemma to leave out the return cable, so took it off and refitted carbs, then in my head i thought, what if it snaps? so carbs off again and put return cable back on!! lots of phaffing about but that settled my piece of mind! lol

stuff it, its comming off, i dont think it will break or lead to problems, at the end of the day im gonna do it now cos like shit am i taking the carbs off again due to the fact that ive got HRC cold air tray fitted and it makes it a right mare to get the carbs on and off. while im at it i might just swap the throttle tube/assembley for a conventional one, probably an rs250 item.

No - as long as it works properly in all steering positions then you have to be good to go I reckon?

Hi,
I always thought it was so you could pull the throttle shut if the carbs froze or return spring snapped?
I'd rather be on the safe side but as its a race bike i dont suppose it matters so much.
