The project begins
Hi Guys
Started the overhaul project today. Got a couple of pics before I started to dismantle.

http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/1530232/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Now a photo of the result, I took this before I finished and only have the swingarm, rear wheel and yokes to remove. i was hoping to get it all done but did not have a socket big enough to do it.

On looking at the HT leads they definately need replacing, anyone know the best best place/brand to use?
On the whole I am pleasantly pleased with how the bike came apart, only four bolts got stuck as they had been rounded off but i managed to remove them. not bad considering most of them have not been removed for 18 years.
I will keep updating this thread with progress unless you feel a new topic is required with each update.

Re: The project begins
Hi Guys
I am back with an update. Will post pics but busy with work, bike etc etc.
Bike as you have seen was completely stripped down and is now completely rebuilt apart from the chain and gear linkage.
Frame and swingarm have been painted metallic black. All rusty parts have been cleaned, wiring has been cleaned and contacts cleaned. The wheels have been powder coated white, balanced and fitted with alpha 10's. All bearings have been replaced apart from swingarm, it seemed fine and was a bit of a mission to remove so I regreased.
Brakes have been cleaned and overhauled. Did not need any replacement parts as were in good condition.
Exhausts were rusty so cleaned and resprayed with HTP and look suprisingly good, end can was polished with autosol.
Fairing is in process of been fixed, I think I am repairing so much of them I am not sure how much original is left! but they are coming together and looking good.
I have a problem though. Went to start to the bike and it started but was only running on 2 cylinders. The first on the left and the third in line, 1 and 3 I think? I tested the spark and it was weak and yellow so got new spark plugs and spark now strong and bright blue. Still only running on 2 cylinders but when I connect the fuel tank it will not start and fuel comes out of the first breather pipe on the carb, a lot of fuel. If I take the tank off so only the fuel in the carbs it starts but only on 2 cylinders.
I think I have the leads in the correct order, I will try explain the order I have them in as stupidly I did not mark them when I took them off - lesson learnt!
Cylinder 1 - Left hand coil longer lead
Cylinder 2 - Left hand coil shorter lead
Cylinder 3 - Right hand coil shorter lead
Cylinder 4 - Right hand coil longer lead
Not sure what the problem could be, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: The project begins
Forgot to add, the R1 is my mates, it is a 98 model and is absolutely mint but although is faster with more powerfull he cant keep up down a good B road.
That is why I got the NC29 as any one can twist a throttle on a big bike and go fast but it is more of a challenge and requires some skill to go quick on a small bike. Have to say the R1 is scary quick and a lot of fun. Still prefer my 18 year old babyblade!

Re: The project begins
thing is the coils have 2 slots, top and bottom, id assume you also need to know which slot the HT leads belong in.
i know the horse has bolted now the gates shut. but get a hold of the GFs nail polish (4 colours) and mark a blob on the HT lead and corresponding coil, on the other end write the cylinder num on.
