Mot next week, coming to the end of a long build.

Post by Riley »

For those of you from the old forum you'll probably be familiar with the bike. To be honest it should have been finished a long time ago but with having a baby and working on the house it becomes a juggling act, but being able to take my time has also led to being able to build exactly the bike I wanted, as I have been able to be patient in accumulating parts at the right price.

Firstly I'd like to thank all of those who have helped along the way, I made good use of the search function on the site as well as receiving help from other forum members. I would like to say a big thankyou particularly to Jason (machining), Triston (wiring), Owen (Graphics), Chris (painter), Rick Oliver for his fantastic 750 rear wheel conversion, Paul at Tyga, Banshee and Psychosomatic88.

The bike started life out as a 1993 late spec nc30 with an aftermarket fibreglass fairing in standard red and black colour scheme with a faddy daddy half system and steering damper - this was back in 2001. It wasn't long before it became obvious that the faddy daddy system had some issues (the system was mild steel and time had taken its toll, the seams had started splitting I had the exhaust checked by the marshalls at Prescott speed hill climb at 122 db) this system was replaced by a standard nc30 exhaust with new collars and a blueflame oval stainless can (which I believe is now fitted to one of the northern Irish contingents bikes). The bike stayed this way for quite some time until I bought a tyga rcv211 front mudguard which then led to a tyga suzuka fairing, aluminium fairing stay Hrc coolant and brake reservoir kits. I then added an Rvf single seat unit to the bike but was never happy with the look of the rear end as I felt it was too bulbous. In 1995 I went to the Isle of Man TT with a make and I soon became very tired of having to carry everything in panniers a rucksack or in my jacket as I couldn't use the space under the rear seat as it was a single piece single seat unit. Whilst at Tesco's in Doglas I came across an Rvf in standard colours which at first glance looked nice and warranted a second look only to notice it was fitted with a cagiva mito evo seat unit. I hung about until the owner turned up and he explained briefly how he had done it - with that I decided if he had managed it then why couldn't I? Over that week I racked up 1500 miles going around and around the island (most of those miles on the mountain) with the bike performing faultlessly, more than can be said for my mates 5 year old R6. So on our return I went about accumulating the parts for the mito rear which was soon fitted. The bike was used up until the end of the summer, whilst the parts for the Ducati front end were purchased. During this time the fairing was unpainted, the tank was red and black and the seat unit was yellow. When coming back to the bike park one afternoon I found a fella looking around the bike, he proceeded to tell me that it was a triumph, oh well never mind hey? So started the final stage of the build, that's right about 3 years ago! i have been riding bits and pieces in that time but its not the same as riding your own.

The bike is now ready for its Mot.

The bike now only retains the ignition barrel from the origional 1993 bike every other component has been replaced with that from another machine or from a different manufacturer. Please bear in mind that this hasn't been a big money build, there are few other bits and pieces which would be nice a lightweight 5 spoke wheel would be nice as well as Ricks Rads and Cdi, but I can't justify the out lay on these items at t he moment as everything is in good order on the bike.

The spec of the bike is as follows:-

-Ducati 996 gold nitrate front end with 320mm galfer wave discs, Brembo goldline calipers/mastercylinder, and vented carbon fibre mudguard (oh and a Riley ducati fitting kit).
-Cbr600rr dash with modified loom.
-Tyga Suzuka fairing, tinted Db screen, aluminium meter stay and fairing stay.
-Rvf carbs
-Harris R1 rearsets/brembo rear mc, harris fuel filler cap and sp1 exhaust hanger.
-Mito rear (modified mito subframe), clear lens, mitomondo single seat cowl and led number plate light.
-Rick Oliver Vfr750 rear wheel conversion.
-Hrc coolant and brake reservoirs.
-Ethos half system with bead blasted oe down pipes.
-Late spec adjustable Rs250 Shock.
-Polished swingarm (foam filled) and sprocket carrier.
-Braided lines front and back.
-Wavey rear disc.
-Led indicators + box.
-Scottoiler.
-Nws hugger.
-Carbon Kevlar engine covers.
-Plus some other shiney bits.

The photos I took this morning don't really do the paint any justice, the colour is actually ford signal yellow as are the wheels.

Thanks for the comments, Micro monkey where abouts in Gloucester are you? I'm from Quedgeley. There are actually quite a few 400 owners in Gloucester and the surrounding areas who frequent the site. Murray has a very nice Rvf fitted with many Hrc parts, James has a Tyga Nc30 (Camel colours) and an Rvf, Mattley is from Over, and Justin has a zxr400 (Stroud) and there's a lad from Tewkesbury with a nicely rebuilt Nc30 called Duncan.

Riley,
That really is something. :D

Two questions I have.

Was there much to wiring up the cbr600rr dash?

What did you need to do to get the 916 frontend fitted?

Micro monkey so that means we probably live within about a mile of each other then, small world isn't it?! Have to meet up some time if you wanted.

dx4 cheers, the cbr600rr dash is an absolute anus to wire up good job I've got a friend who's an evil electrical geniuos. He has said in the past he may do another one but don't hold me to that. The Ducati front end is more straight forward because I supply the fitting kits for them! I'm having a set made up for a forum member at the moment (hopefully be finished this week) but it is dependent on whether I can get the raw materials at a sensible price (I have been supplying them for £75 but with the exchange rate as it is at the moment this would be closer to £85 unfortunately - in this country the raw materials cost more than I sell the kits for!).

As far as meeting up with people I have been known to crawl out of my hovel every so often and socialising!
