Doing my valve clearances - Updated!
I have just finished checking all my clearances and writing it all down. Was about to post my results when I had another quick look at Vipers guide. Have I done it wrong? In the picture below I have marked in red where I took my measurements from, clearly not what it says in the guide
do I need to do them all again?

Re: Doing my valve clearances, have I done this wrong?
in the picture it looks as if you have checked the clearance between the cam lobe and rocker arm.........
if this is what you have done then yes you will have to do them again and check the clearance between the rocker arm and shim!!!!
i wouldn't worry about it,it just gives you more experience and this time round you will more than likely do it faster.

unfortunately bro, you check between the shim and the rocker arm, as arrowed with the white on in the picture.

Take a look at the bottom right picture on page 1.19....if you hadn't seen Vipers guide you can see why this picture is misleading

i see what you mean, you can also see the shaft of the rocker arm travelling underneath the feeler gauge which would give you the wrong impression even more.........
on hindsight the text clearly states that the clearance is to be checked between rocker arm and shim but i reckon that is a poor mistake for them to make.......especially for something regarded so crucial to the prolonged life of the bikes engine.

Oh well, you live and learn, I guess the problem was I don't always understand what the parts are or why I'm doing it, I just want to maintain my bike as it should be done.
Hopefully others will learn from my mistake :)
I'll post back once I have put the shims back and taken the correct measurements, might explain some of my weird results!
PS - Merry Christmas!

Re: Doing my valve clearances, have I done this wrong?
Appologies for any confusion in the picture, but I presumed that the arm of the feeler guage pictured would have shown where to fit the guage.
A more concerning issue is though, that you have 10 shims out of the motor and have obviously cranked the motor over to do so. I hope there's been no damage done to the shim seats or rocker arms.

Re: Doing my valve clearances, have I done this wrong?
It's not your error dude, it's my fault for being lazy, I should have printed your guide and not just read it. Plus it seems I didn't read the manual as well as I should lol.
I'm not sure how I could have damaged anything tho, I only removed shims that I had thought needed swapping (I have them stuck to the guide you made, and I only removed them when each cylinder was TDC as per the manual....what exactly could I have done to damage something?
