Will a 3EN1 stator fit on 3HE

Post by Henk88 »

Hi,

I've got a 3EN1 bike in which I'm fitting a 3HE engine. Now I'm alomst finished and wanted to mount the left fairing of the 3EN but it doesn't fit, as the cover for the stator/rotor is different from the 400 engine. Will a 400 3EN1 stator/rotor fit a 3HE engine? Or what are other options to be able to fit the 3EN1 fairing on the bike?

That's odd - I thought the fairings were the same

No, unfortunately not. The 3HE stator cover is slightly bigger at the top, so it wont fit. And I want to use my 3en fairing as I like the decals much more

IIRC, the stator itself is the same, just the covers are different. I'm pretty sure the bottom end casting is the same between the 400 and 600 so theoretically either cover plate should fit. As I don't have a parts manual to hand I can't cross check but if the gasket has the same part number then I'd say yes. Off the top of my head I can't think of any purpose for making them different.

I've dismounted a 3EN and 3HE rotor and the things I've found out;
-Cover will fit
-Stator of a 3EN is different from a 3HE, less windings (15vs18) and mounting holes are not the same. Differences are small but big enough you can't swap.
-Basically the bottom end casting is the same, but some material has been milled to be able to mount the rotor.

See images with the 3EN vs 3HE parts.

It seems that there are different versions of 3EN fairings around though, I've seem images of 3EN where the hole in the faring is like the 3HE.
Anyway, I've solved it by grinding a part from the stator cover. Now it just needs some welding to make it a little more watertight :)
So if anyone is facing this issue as well (I doubt :P), this should do the trick;
