New arse end on my racer

Well I didn't like the look of the CBR600 tail piece. It just didn't look nice enough for me.

So with the race season over I decided I would try a GSXR600 tail piece instead. I think it will look pretty darn good when it's all finished.

I've been busy the last day and a half bending tube steel and getting everything cut and shaped. It's coming together nicely. Now ready for welding, so hopefully that can be done before I bugger off to NZ for chrissie!

So apart from the welding all that is left is to make a battery box. Well, apart from the obvious job of painting the whole bike again...

that looks good, Matt and I are currently fitting an SP1 tail unit to the NC23. Hopefully going to use the standard subframe and create a mounting kit so that it can be sold to standard NC23 owners and a replacement part.

Pics to follow but its taking shape nicely at the mo.

Right then. I've been working my ass off much to my girlfriends lack of amusement. My bike doens't live at home as I have no garage, so most nights i've been back and fother to my friends house working on it. Shirking my cooking and cleaning chores to get it done. I've still got all the engine maintenance to do after my holiday.

Its now painted and the rear subframe is just tacked in place. A couple of the mounting holes for my tail piece don't quite line up now, oh well.

I've put some of the decals on and just had to fit it up to see what it would look like. I've never painted a metallic before, but really happy with how it came out. A dust free environment and a bake light to cure the paint would help...

Excuse the crap photos, I used my phone, I will be running my front number plate on the front left and a single plate on the tail piece a la AMA race series (can't wait to argue that one with the scrutineer). Not sure what i'll put on the side panels yet. I'm also thinking of running a stripe similar to the suzuki GSVR motogp machine along the length of the bike.

Number 40 is the number I'm running next year...

That is a cracking looking job, if I'm honest I wasn't sold on the first few pics, but now it's painted it really looks well.
I think the arse end of the 07 R6 looks quite sexy, so might have a go at that. Anyone know beforehand whether that's a viable option, or rather, if it definately isnt?

Oh, now that I look at yours Greggo, where have you hidden the battery?

I run a smaller than standard battery, I don't remember how many Amp hours, but it was about 2/3rds of the original. There were a bunch of posts about it on the old site if you can be arsed doing a search.

The battery box JUST squeezes in the space where the standard battery box would sit. I've had to make a custom alloy box to fit the space, with all the other electrics tucked up inside the seat. Once I've got all that on i'll take another photo (post holiday). At the mo you can see the lectrics hanging down like some dead thing...

Hopefully the ally box will look alright in there and not stick out too much.

I'f you're prepared to do the fabrication of a subframe, any tailpiece can be made to fit...

Anyone got anyideas on the colors I should use for the stripes? I was thinking black and orange or black and yellow. Our number boards are yellow so it might match in well?

Okey dokey. I'm after your opinions on colors to try for the stripes on my bike. I'm a visual cripple and need help. :scared:

This is some vinyl I have at home, and I thought it looks quite good. I think I will use a broader black stripe though.

Let me know what you think. Other suggested colors are black/white, Black/yellow....

the green looks good, will you carry it down the length of bike?
thats one of the sexiest conversions ive ever seen by the way.
in one of the photos you can see all the way under the tank, is the engine missing or is it just me?

Not as good as the work some of you lads turn out, but she isn't looking too shabby for next year. It seems the inlet valves on my current engine aren't in for the long haul, with almost the whole lot tightening up over the season. I've reshimmed it, but i'll be checking them after every meeting me thinks. If not during. Then i'll throw in the new engine.
