Please, no autographs.......

Post by Goinphaster »

The Video of my Laguna Seca Track Day have been finally posted upon Youtube for all the world to see. Couple of notes: The bike is all stock save the 112 main jets in all carbs, and all three vids are of the same lap, just the different editing view points.

Split Screen

Helmet Cam

Rear View

The quality sucks since it's over the net, but I can't wait for the DVD to arrive in the mail! :)

Laguna Seca is so awesome my buddy drove 3.5 hours to come watch me play. I would do the same too. Video's of someone following you around the track will highlight your mistakes better than a helmet camera will because it shows what you as the rider is doing wrong. This is my second track day that I had someone shoot video of me, and it is worth every penny, to be able to relive the experience- and learn from it!

As you saw in the Youtube vids, I cut a 2:01 for my best lap (recorded anyways) on the RVF. What you didn't see was the 1:56 I lapped on my CBR954, recorded on my personal camera attached to the tank. Unfortunately after that 1:56, just before the finish line I forgot my camera impedes my racer's tuck and It slammed my helmet into my camera, ruining the rest of the recording- it was pointed straight at the guages :oops:. Thankfully the camera still works, but I really wished I had a better recording of the rest of the session because I am sure the lap times were 2-3 seconds better.
here's what I learned after watching all of the videos of the track day;
RVF: I didn't play on the handling strengths of the RVF, since I was slowing down waaaay too much setting up for the turns. I was down shifting twice for some corners when I should have been easing off the gas and then rolling on through after the apex- CARRYING MORE SPEED OUT. It was weird how corners other riders were afraid of I was going in deep and passing on the out side, trusting the handling of the RVF, but had problems stated above in other corners. Another mistake was waiting for my knee to touch down- every time my knee touched down I could have been going lots faster because when I went to straighten up the bike didn't even get to the middle of the track.

CBR954RR: In the mild state of suspension tune, I did OK, but I could have done a lot better. Again I down shifted too much setting up for corners, and it showed on the video like I was in slow motion. What I did do right was trail brake well in the slow corners (11, 2+3), closing the gap on 90% of the riders in front of me going into those turns. I was braking so hard in a few corners that you could hear the rear howl (slide) in the initial grab.

Overall I did OK, I never had a problem with either bike getting squirelly, so I wasn't upsetting them with sloppy riding techniques, and I know where to go just before my next track day- back to the video's!

Thats awesome mate, it looked very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I bet its nice and warm over there as well 8-) .
I have played Laguna on Tourist trophy hundreds of times on the PS2. I would love to go down the corkscrew for real or even just watch some racing. Especially after watching Stoner and Rossi this year.

Funny you should mention Tourist Trophy..... I wonder if any one can guess the two bikes I played the game with just before the track day :roll: In all seriousness, Tourist trophy is as close as they could get replicating the track. Now they just need to make a TT2 for the PS3- Can we say High Definition Laguna Seca?
