Track Bike

Hi, finially got myself a rvf400 which is a dedicated track bike. All the road stuff is taken off and susp is set up. But whats the best thing to do with one of these bikes for the winter? Have a road going RVF400 which gets out about once a week in this crapy weather. But the track bike will not be out again for at least another 4-5 months. Been told the best thing to do with the track bike is to start it once a week and let it run until the fan comes on. This gets rid of any moisture in the engine and keeps a nice film of oil over the internals. Or drain the fuel from the carbs, change the oil/filter and leave it alone until the spring? Cheers

Best not to run it unless you're actually going to use it.

Ideal is to warm it up, do an oil change and drain the carbs[1].
Best to brim the tank and use a bit of fuel stabiliser.
Lube the chain.
Take the battery out and charge every month.
Stick it on stands if you can (move it around every now and then if you can't) and cover with a breathable cover.
You may want if it's an external garage to spray some WD40 everywhere to prevent condensation related corrosion.
I also plug the exhaust.

I'd do more if it was to be more time though.

put antifreeze in the rads, if you just have water in it.

Or just drain it and stick a bit of tape over the ign with "no water" to remind you.

If it does have just water it's not a good idea to leave it full anyway.

druid is right on that one..........

if you drain the water out of it you are better giving it a flush just to get any shit out of there and have it clean for the cold months ahead....

and you can either leave it empty but if i was you i would fll it again with 50/50 distilled water and anti-freeze.that should stop any shit or corrosion forming in the cooling system.

Thought it might be one that wouldn't get spotted. Saw a bloke at cadwell in feb, he had his bike in the awning overnight, it was freezing, started the bike, the block was cracked.

just a note for anyone who is thinking of going racing,no additives are permitted.

no anti-freeze.( water only)
