I have a vfr 400 nc24. I rode to work and parked with no problems. But when I was about to drive home after work and all my petrol was gone(+-8litres) and bike wouldn't start. Went to get petrol and started it up. Was first abit of a struggle then came to life and all my petrol started shooting about 2m out my exhaust. More Rev more petrol spray. Does anyone know what this could be

Your fuel tap is leaking...... replace it.

Which part of the fuel tap leaks from the body or the outlets, does it leak engine off, does it leak with tap in off position.
Fuel out the exhaust suggests leaking needle and seat in a carby, would not run or crank engine until you fix the fault otherwise you may get a hydraulic and damage the engine,

You posted this into wrong section hugely decreasing chance you'll get correct answer.
But I will guess that NC24 has similarly to other Japanese bikes of that era vacuum controlled petcock and your failed. Depends on construction. Some of them can be rebuilt, some (like one on Bandit 400) can't. One way or another you need to either rebuild or replace it. If rebuild kit is available go for it. Usually it contains everything which can wear out for 1/3 to 1/4 price of new petcock.
If during disassembly you find excessive amount of dirt around it is possible that petcock only sucked some kind of dirt which prevented it from close properly. Then it might be sufficient to clean everything out without changing or rebuilding it but I doubt this will be the problem considering the age of bike.
One additional note: change your oil! It is possible that fuel got not only into exhaust but also into engine oil. Such mix of fuel and oil won't have required properties and you can ruin your engine by running it without changing oil.
