RVF won't go beyond 5k rpm

Post by russianmeow »

Hi guys, im new to this nc35 only had it for over 2 months. So im hoping someone could help me with something. Yesterday i had a fresh tyre change. On my way back home my bike felt like it ran out of fuel. Last i checked i had a full tank so that's not it. But what i realised is that it only occurs at 5k rpm on all gears. if i try to throttle more to break above 5krpm the bike loses power and it has the same feeling as when your bike runs out of petrol. So i went to a mechanic and lrft it overnight. next day he called me, asked me to replace my whole carburetor. he said there's a hole in it and sent me an image. i don't know what exactly im seeing but is ut really necessary to replace the whole carburetor?

Not clear from the picture which hole you are referring to.

But from your description of the problem, it may be a speed limiter system fault and therefore the default 5000rpm limit has kicked in. An easy way to check is the use the NC35 Derestrictor resistor mod, in the Document Library on this website, to eliminate any affect that the speed limiter system.

okay I'll probably check that out. the mechanic refers to the scratched surface in the middle near that tiny hole idk what's the tecnical term. idk if what he explains to me is even legit

I'd reckon that it is electrical rather than carbs as there is a 5.5k revs restriction on the bikes. If the CDI cannot see the Speedo - it is unplugged or the fuse is gone - then it restricts the bike in all gears to 5.5k revs.

AS per Magg's comments - check that the speedo system is fine before committing to carbs - I reckon the carbs on these bikes are reliable enough

alright thanks for the feedback. ya i have a feeling that it could be electrical related but not so much of my speedo because last i checked it was running fine. but since you guys mentioned abt electrical problems i came across a thred mentioning about loose side stand connections .which reminds me, yesterday during my tyre change i saw my mechanic tilting my bike on its side stand almost aggressively and it could have caused loose connections in the side stand switch which contributes to the current issue im facing. what do you guys think? is it really possible for the sidestand switch to cause restriction problems?

Side stand switch has no effect on speed/rpm limiter. As CMSCJ1 has suggested, check the indicator/brake-light fuse as it supplies power to speed/rpm limiter. Also check that 3-pin connector that comes from speedometer is connected.
