Future thoughts....
I've got loads of ideas for my bike but one I just had was a single sided swing arm?

Why do you want a sssa? I'd hazard a guess and say that it's going to require major surgery for no more than a cosmetic benefit?
As for my 71F, it's a process of gradual restoration back to more or less standard trim but with maybe the addition or replacement of improved modern bits. S/s exhaust system for one! Also a rebuilt front end with revalved and resprung forks to suit my 11½ stone weight rather than the sub 11 stone weight of the average Japanese rider. Aside from that just odds and ends really - a rear hugger to keep the crap out of the shock and electrics and a new ductile iron rear disc to go with the new pair I've just bought for the front.

I'll admitt that it would be for cosmetic, but purely because I haven't seen one done (so far) and I think it would look quite nice.
I just wasn't sure how much effort it would be :D
Would it be easier to replace the front forks? Or do you want to keep the originals?

Unless you can find a bike that has almost identical suspension geometry as your gsxr a SSSA is going to be a very expensive mod - you'd have to go to an engineering company and have them build you one from scratch.
i'm going to be putting a K6 rear shock on my GK76A - they can be had for under £100 used and make some money back selling my standard one.

I did think about it a lot more and my mate told me all that would be involved

) I'm just going to basically "upgrade" my GK76A.
My issue with this though is finding after market parts that will fit/work with the bike.
Does anyone else have problems finding the right gear for the job?

The kind of parts I'm talking about are, front forks, air filters and the such.
How readily available are they for the GSXR 400? I'm looking for an air filter to start with, could anyone suggest one?

there's a K&N that bolts right into the original airbox, K&N dont know it fits the GK76A, but it does, i'll get you the K&N part number in a minute, if i can find it!
They retail for around £50, but being a K&N its the last air filter you will ever buy for the bike.
other option is to scrap the airbox all together and put a cone on each carb, but this is very difficult on the GK76A as the carbs are so close together, so i have no recommendations for you on this option!.

Some people have replaced the standard rear suspension unit with one from a K6 GSXR600 (i think - someone will hopefully correct me if i'm wrong with the exact model), this is something i am going to look to do.

. Does it need holes drilliing to screw it in? Or am I completely off base?

I don't have the K&N on my bike (yet - lack of funds atm) so i cant comment on any difference it makes, but i imagine because it has the potential to let more air in (particularly if you've got an aftermarket can that is letting more air out aswell, you might want to get the carb re-tuned after fitting.
as for the rear suspension unit, yes its the spring under the seat as well as other associated bits, the shock, and the adjuster that you will find above the exhaust on the right hand side of the bike..
the K6 unit simply goes in its place - its a tight squeeze, but it goes in. some people have found that they have had to file away part of the suspension arm at the bottom (forget what that bit is actually called) so that it doesnt snag, but not much.
Last time i looked (about a month ago) you could get a second hand K6 shock in good nick for less than £100, and people are listing the original GK76A shock on ebay for up to 40-50, so its a nice cheap mod!

No drilling required on a GK76a. K&N filter comes with a base plate - clamp the two together with jubilee clip supplied. Then screw base plate to filter housing using supplied screws in the existing holes... Very easy and all fits as standard - may just need to get the fuelling sorted.Chalky wrote:Thanks Ripzay.

Yep SU-7592.
I've fitted a Scorpion exhaust and then the K&N. The exhaust tone is slightly deeper and a little bit of induction noise. I don't know what the bike was making before these changes but on dyno with them it was 58bhp running a tad lean.
I think the K6 shock mod raises the rear of the bike slightly. Makes for a quicker turn in although as stock it doesn't handle badly when in good condition (I have a GSXR K6 600 too for comparison).
