Gerd rads - Question...

Hey all,

I have finally got my NC30 out of retirement and it is running well.... so I have decided to start tuning it further! I am currently running Gerd radiators but one thing which is bothering me is how close the upper one fits to the underside of the frame making the intake to the carb very narrow. I saw an RC30 rad the other day which looks like this:

This is exactly what I want to do to my upper radiator as it will open up the intake into the carbs. Has anyone manipulated radiators like this before? I want to do it myself since I don't trust anyone else!

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks
Luke

That looks like a simple mod.

My old rad looked like it had just been attacked with a hack saw , not to sure I'd be keen to cut the gerd ones around , I'll have a check and see what's on my current track bike but from the top of my head there are a couple of small home made brackets to drop the rad maybe 20mm

As marcus said a couple of brackets to drop the rad would be easier.
To do the mod in your pic you would need to remove the fins in that area, heat treat the top rail were you want to bend and dress the ends with a light hammer.

Yeah - I'll try the brackets first.

Thanks for all the replies

Excuse the poor picture and beat up rad but this is what I have to give clearance for the ram air duct

I am currently modding an RC30 upper and a custom lower (to fit a NC35).
I love angle grinders... So cut alu in between the tabs(also removed one tab as needed to mod spacing), carefully removed the upper fins
Image

Cut out a alu plate to fit, JBweld it to the upper water passages, and out to the alu welder to weld the edges of the plate and tab to the rad

The lower is a massive (also dual core as the rc30 upper) that belonged to one of Craig McLelland later Brent Nichol race bikes. I have seen pictures of it installed, but I couldn´t make it fit properly. Even though we get 40ºC summers around here, these two rads together will be an overkill, so angle grinder butcher on the rescue. Will post some pics when back from the welder
