R6 Shock Swap - 3EN2 fitment
Hey all!
So I've been reading that the R6 from 06 rear shock should bolt straight into the '89 3EN2 and most 1WG's no issues.
However! Unless I am smoking really strong drugs without knowing it.
The R6 top mount is only 29.85mm wide and my stock FZR one is 39.95mm wide.
What is going on here? Did I miss a memo?
Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do to fill the extra space?

You use washers or make two small spacers. It only centralises the shock in the bracket.
You also need to cut a small corner off the top of the frame mount for clearance and also modify the R6 shock clevis
with a grinder.
You also require the 138mm center dogbones.

You can get the dog bones from Projection Components they might do the spacers too if you ask

I modified the clevis mount all ready. Was damn fine tolerance, was only like 0.3mm to narrow to fit so a bit of dremel/file love sorted that without an issue.
The dogbones are easy enough to get. Litetek does super sexy titanium ones that I'm going to use. He does awesome work and I prefer to support people who support us.
I read somewhere that you can rotate the shock to have the gas canister facing the engine to increase clearance, was that applicable here or was that a 3TJ trick?

I was refereeing to rounding the bottom of the clevis so it clears the knuckle not the width.Bluey27 wrote:I modified the clevis mount all ready. Was damn fine tolerance, was only like 0.3mm to narrow to fit so a bit of dremel/file love sorted that without an issue.

You may find if you search posts that Projection Components also support members on this and many other forums.
It is more than likely that all the other suspension link manufactures have used the specifications that came from their research and development.
The shock rotation was tried when failed attempts were made to convert a 3EN1 to R6 suspension.
I have not found it required on any other conversion.

Ah ok, when you said modify without specifying what bit, I just assumed it was the problem I had full ready fixed.willandrip wrote:I was refereeing to rounding the bottom of the clevis so it clears the knuckle not the width.Bluey27 wrote:I modified the clevis mount all ready. I'll have to have another look and see about the rounding, was a bit vague that's all.
I'm not saying that projection don't support us at all. Don't get me wrong they sound like they have done awesome work and lots of people have benefited. The ones I want to use just happen to meet my needs a bit better.
Not meaning to upset anyone at all
Thanks for clearing that up, in that case I assume that the piece that needs to be trimmed is the tab that from memory helps locate the battery box?
