Hi All,

Got to replace the clutch on my NC35. Removed the plates and realized there were only 9 friction and 8 plain plates... Should be 10 and 9 right?
So I inserted new plates 10/9 and the rest of the assembly.
Now the problem:
The clutch doesn't work. It looks like the push rod is ... too short !?!? - is this even possible?
Basically there is no resistance on the clutch lever and the push rod doesnt seem to be pushing enough. The lifer plate moves alright but not far enough to lift the pressure plate.
I have not tried on running engine. I want to make sure its all done correctly before I put the cover on and waste the gasket.
Is running engine gonna make any difference?
Im not sure if Im being clear enough but this is the best explanation I can do.

My guess is, if the previous owner was running on 2 plates less than prescribed by Haynes, he might have installed a shorter push rod? - probably a stupid guess but I can figure out anything else...

there is a little piece that goes on the end of the clutch rod at the cable pulling end - is it on properly?

It is. There is that pin that goes out and pushes the rod once the cable is pulled. There is not much movement though, probably about 1cm - is this correct you reckon?

NC30 has 10 friction/9 plain plates, NC35 has 9 friction/8 plain.

Now I know...
Installed 9/8 and it turned out the plain plates are too slim...
Basically the shop sold me NC30 clutch kit not NC35 as requested.
Now there are 9 new friction plates and 8 old and burnt plain plates.
Taken the bike for a test ride last night and it's shit.
Clutch seems to be dragging quite a bit in first 2 gears - can this be caused by the old plain plates?
Basically I did my clutch having wrong parts and wrong info from the manual, only got it going thanks to you guys.

The plates are the same thickness, there are just fewer of them in the NC35.

Again the clue is in the question - if you`ve rebuilt it with `old and burnt` plain plates they are almost certainly warped as well and that`s why your clutch is dragging...

Hmm. OK then, means that the shop sold me the wrong plains as the height difference between 2 stacks of old and new ones is 1.5 plate...
The old ones are sure burnt and abused but don't look warped... i guess i wouldn't be able to see that anyway?
I'm now chasing the shop for correct plates. What a nightmare! My first ever contact with clutch replacement on my Hornet was so much easier...
