Hi guys.

Having to bite the bullet and replace the clutch as now no matter how much adjustment on the cable, there is still a slight pull in gear with the clutch in.

My question is will i need to buy a clutch locking tool or is there a cheap(er) way of locking the engine? Oh and where is the best place to get a clutch cover gasket?

I am not a novice to rebuilds but this will be my first ever clutch change.

Thanks in advance

Your symptoms are the exact opposite of those that indicate that a clutch is at the end of it's life and is requiring springs and plates to be replaced.

I would however strip the plates and inspect them for warpage and inspect the clutch drum fingers for notching.

Put it on a stand and spin the motor over on the starter with the plugs out and the clutch pulled in , casing off and oil drained.

You will probably be able to spot any problem straight away.

Cheers Will

I'm doing this for a friend.

I have a horrible feeling that he has put ordinary car oil in the bike having completed an unsupervised oil change and this has caused the plates to stick not allowing full clutch operation.

To be safe I'm gonna order new plates to change them.

I have researched and have answered my own question and noticed that it only needs locking to remove the basket.

Have a look at the other side where the cable connects first as something one of three ball bearings comes out and gives problems.
When replacing the small pins that hold the pressure plate and springs go very careful when torqueing them back up as they seem to be made from old cheese and can strip from the slightest over torque.

I've also got a new sprocket cover and clutch actuator to fit as I broke the slot attempting to crack off the nut on the pushrod arm.

Hey lets hope that its the plates that have swollen.

On a side note, where would I be able to get a clutch cover gasket from? Or has anyone got the part number

Well alls well that ends well

Quite easy really, when I took off the cover an pulled the lever only 3 I te 6 plates were moving away with the pressure plate.

Once disassembled some of the plates had worn quite badly so needed replacing in any case. So all back together and neutral can now be selected with the motor running and no drag.
