Loosing all power on front brakes on NC30
Hi!
In the beginning of last summer, I had my NC30 serviced, amongst other things I had them change my brake fluid. After a while it felt like I was slowly losing power in my front brakes, I could press the handle further and further in before anything happened. After it was resting in the garage for a while, I was gonna take it out for little ride. I had no power on the front brakes at all, and the lever/handle could be pressed all the way in.
The place who serviced the bike said that it most likely was because of old gaskets/seals in the main cylinder.(sorry, I´m not english so I´m not 100% sure of the right words) and that changing the oil meant that everything moved a bit longer then what it usually does under normal circumstances. Which caused the oil to go past the piston I guess? I accepted the explanation, although I´m no mecanic. Does this seem logical?
Anyways, they fixed the brakes with a rep kit for the main cylinder, and it worked the whole season. BUT, when I got my bike out just this weekend, which has been stored the whole winter, it´s the same story.. No power on the front brakes, the lever goes all the way in, no leaks anywhere. What on earth could be wrong? Do you think the shop could have done something wrong?
I want some opinions from you before I contact them, because I have no idea what´s wrong. Especially since they, I assume, changed all the gaskets/seals in the main cylinder with the rep kit.

Sounds like the brakes and master cylinder need bleeding
An NC is for life, not just for Christmas!

Is this happening after a few kms of riding or before you even move out of the garage?

I had the same issue recently. Re-bled it but over the next couple of weeks the spongy lever returned.
I rebuilt the master cylinder using a Japanese non-oem 'Tourmax' kit off eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-VFR-40 ... 2338ee77ae)
This solved the problem.

it sounds like air is getting into your brake system, if you re-bleed the system it will be ok for now.
make sure it is properly bleed first, after this if you stll get problem you have an air-leak somewhere
either bleed nipples, calipers seals or master cylinder seals or brake hose washer not seaing propley between brake caliper and master cylinder.

Re: Loosing all power on front brakes on NC30
Hi again guys,
Sorry for answering so late(Not quite a year, but nor far from it). After the brake issues I've kinda lost some motivation and put it away for a while. Getting a RC51 around the same time doesn't help either:)
Now I've finally decided to fix it. As I've said, the shop "fixed" the brakes with a repair kit. Not sure if the kit they used came with a piston as well, as far as I can tell there are several types of kits? I did bleed the the system, but still nothing. There are still no leaks anywhere. Still a full tank of brake-fluid.
I'm going to fix this my self, no more money to the workshop. Never done anything with brakes before, but it'll probably work out. What should my next course of action be? If there is a air-lea, as Neosophist says, what does the mean for me? How can i fix it? How can i confirm that is the problem?
I forgot to say thanks the last time, so thanks:)

It's the master cylinder seals. Get an OEM replacement and you'll be sorted.
And double check all your pipes and banjos.

It don't matter if i'm fixin' it or ridin' it.

But isn't those seals included in the repair kit, which has been used by the shop?

Depends if they were fitted and how well they were fitted...Mbrandt wrote:But isn't those seals included in the repair kit, which has been used by the shop?
Buy OEM ones rather than a cheap replacement.

Ok, I'll try that then. Any suggestions on where to buy an oem repair kit?
