Well, the bike is nearly finished, stuck the mirrors on this afternoon and one of them is very loose and floppy at the pivot.
Had a look and can't see an obvious way of tightening it, anyone have any suggestions please?

OEM or OEM style are a sealed unit and once they are loose I doubt it would be fixable. I once bought a Chinese set with the thinned out aerfoiled arms and the left mirror seemed to always point down and after much pushing and pulling in an attempt to see something out of it the mirror loosened off and came apart in my hands. I prefer the slightly more expensive originals as they actually work, well apart from that they still show too much elbow. Although OEMs are slightly longer than the Chinese parts.

Thought i'd have a go at taking the glass out just now, since i was looking at needing a replacement mirror anyway. Trimmed back the plastic around the edge of the glass but it was stuck solid.
Then i had a brainwave and drilled a hole in the back of the body, from the top downwards. The hole is 14mm diameter, just big enough to get the head of a 10mm ring spanner inside and onto the nyloc nut which fixes the head onto the stalk. I spun the stalk around therefore tightening the nut and bobs yer uncle.
Just need to find a little plastic car trim 'mushroom' to glue over the hole and no one would notice.
On reflection, i wish i hadn't bothered trimming back the plastic now as it looks a bit scrappy, also might have been useful to drill the hole in the bottom of the mirror to make it truly invisible, oh well, live and learn. Hopefully someone else will find this useful.

Oh well hope it works. I was going to mention drilling was the only way but it seemed a bit extreme.

Think i've done everything mechanical over the winter, bar rebuild the engine, but the bodywork is tatty and i've no plans to change it so the mirror now matches perfectly! Ghetto fix no doubt but It works, thats the important thing, was unuseable before.
Fitting new rubber next week then ready for the mot.

Ha, good to go then, just in time for the impending Indian Summer, or should that be Monsoon.
