gk76a strange starter behaviour

Post by jamestaylor92 »

I went to my start my bike a couple days ago, bit of a pig from cold but that's nothing unusual.. It started, ran a bit, I switched it off and the starter motor kept spinning, with the key in the off position, even with the key out of the ignition. I just disconnected the battery and put it away.
What could this be? Anyone else had this before?
Thanks a lot.

You'd have to assume something wrong with the starter solenoid. I think the key kills the power to the starter button, so if it was the starter button holding the solenoid on, it should have stopped when you turned off the key? Haven't got the wiring diagram with me to verify.

Okay thanks martin.
Been advised it could be the starter relay which would be nice as they're cheap and easy apparently. Not looking forward to a process of elimination

Should be easy to test, the thick cable goes from the battery straight to the relay and then another thick wire will go to the starter motor, if you look next to where the thick wires connect on the relay there are two thin wires that come from the start button, if you disconnect these thin wires the relay cannot be switched by the start button SO if you connect the battery and it spins the starter you know the relay is stuck on and not being switched by the starter button.
