Hi There
I'm a newbee to the site and planning to build a hybrid 3tj this winter , either a thundercat or fzr 600 engine . I'm going to buy a donor bike as i have the 400 already . Is there a better one of the 2 to go for , is one more tuneable ??? just wondering . I was also wondering if it is possible to fit the yzf750 engine ?? i don't suppose it is as i have not seen any threads on it , but thought i would ask anyway . The Bike will be for trackdays only , as it is a race 400 but it is just lacking that extra bit of power for the fuller figure ha ha ha . as it was a formula 400 race bike it is bump start aswell which is another pain on trackdays alone . the engine was dynod at 72 horses this year and will be for sale when i get home from work .
Cheers Al

I measured a FZR1000 EXUP engine with a twinkle in my eye and it's too wide to go between the frame rails. This has basically the same dimensions as the YZF750, so would need frame mods to fit.
At them moment there seem to be cheap thundercat and foxeye stainless header pipes. Brand new £75 delivered.

use the 600 engine as the bottom end is the same as the 400 so the front and rear sprokets line up.
The 750 or 1000 are heavier and over power the frame / heastock.

How many miles are on the 600 engine ?? I'm working out in dubai just now and looking at mid december before i'm home so if the motor is still around i could give you a shout . I have a spare set of Yamaha Kit pipes for the 3tj was hoping they will fit a 600 motor as the are really light and sound great .
Thanks Again, Mogster

The 400 engine is 20mm shorter than the 600 so the pipes won't fit

If you are interested you can take the 600 engine out to 727cc. With this it should make more torque and more midrange power than a yzf750 motor due to the much longer throw of the crank. I doubt it'll make much more than 100bhp though unless you do head work and get the cams done then i think you'll have a modern 600 bashing machine. But my 600 makes 88bhp and 41 torques and feels like a 400 on steroids mainly because it still revs to 14500.

Looks like it could be a flyer. Reading through the article it would seem possible to use the SP gearbox and still get off the line fairly quickly.

The problem there evil is finding someone with an sp gearbox who is willing to sell it
