				Hi all, I'm having a wee issue with my FZR400 (3en1 '88) - I dropped it the other day :'( - at speed - in the rain - and apart from cosmetic damage, its ok, but I noticed after I had got the bike up and continued on my way that the speedo needle was shaking and then about 50 mile down the road it just stopped moving altogether.
Now the speedo and the odometer are not registering anything - I have changed the speedo cable and it doesn't seem to be that - could it be something other than the actual clock as I don't really have 50quid to fork out on new clocks at the min and the last thing I need it 3 points for speeding, when I have no idea I was!!
Any help appreciated :)

				Spin the cable up with an electric drill. You will sharp see if the instrument itself is damaged.
They are quite intricate/delicate internally (well at least I think so).
You will pick up a used set of clocks for a 3EN1 for less than £50 if you wait and keep searching.
Here's a cheaper set for a start;

				Disconnect the cable from the speedo and tape it where you can see the top. Ride a little way to check its turning.
You have to make sure both of the ends are in properly too otherwise the cable shears off.

				Thanks for your responses, I took off the speedo cable and put a drill on it, it seemd the speedo drive was the problem. Ive got a new one and im just trying to get the time to fix it! The next problem is the backlight on the speedo.... it doesn't work... can I take them apart and replace the bulb, or am I being nieve and it isnt that simple?
Thanks in advance for your nuggets of vastly superior knowledge

				The bulb should pop in from the back of the clocks iirc. There's a rubber cover over the back of them I think.
