Help lookingto buy an NC30

Post by jonNQLY »

Hi y'all

New here, and new to biking, taking test in the new year (that's just a temporary financial issue!!)

i've been looking to get an NC30 and may be do the Tyga thing with it.

What i really need some advice on is what are the pitfalls with this model, what should i look out for when buying one, what is desireable, what is not sort of thing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jon

Well I'm a "keep it standard" guy, and will be the first to view my disgust of what people do to NC30's with Tyga's stuff  . Don't get me wrong, it's quality stuff, and if that's what you want to do, that's fine, just don't expect a nice comment about it when you post some pics up of the final bike :) .

Things to look out for -
- Check bodywork is original (as you want Tyga stuff, you'll get the most dosh for standard bodywork when selling)
- Chain adjuster (make sure all the teeth are still there)
- Check for scuffs on engine casing, exhaust, bar ends etc, anything that points to it being crashed.
- Service history is not a major thing, as the V4 will last forever, but if you don't get any, get it serviced straight away, and make sure the valve clearances are checked. Also, give it an oil and filter change every 6 months and you'll be laughing.
- Can't think of any other specific things for the NC30, I'm sure someone else will think of something, but just do the usual checks you would on any other bike.

Basically, if you've got a good budget, there are still plenty of nice VFR's out there, just be careful of the dodgy one's, which with it being nearly a 20 year old bike, there are quite a few.

Oh, and welcome :D

second what aaron said.
the reg rec is a common pitfall.

IF you want those dirty tyga things on it :o then it might be worth trying to find someone who has already done it.

have a look in the for sale section, differant people have differant tastes so if you like the tyga stuff then get it or as said get one thats been done and save yourself the ballache, there are lots of pureists on this site who dont like the tyga stuff which is fine i like a nice original bike but then i allso appreciate that people are still making things to improve these little bikes and with out them and there input these bikes may get forgoten and that would be a tragady. as said reg/rec's are a probolem on these bikes other than that if its clean and straight you pretty much wont find a better first bike, iv been riding for 10 years and had loads of big bikes but my nc30 is the bike i like the most, they are a lot of fun, cheep to run and if you look after it it will last forever, good luck in your serch.

Much obliged all - getting quite excited about it all!!

doing test early next year so bike will not be too long down the line.

Apologies over the tyga stuff, and i certainly appreciate the purists out there, but as you say, does give it a clean look.

good idea about getting them already done, but isn't that half the fun??

If you like tatting I guess ^_^

There is plenty of other things you can throw money at on the NC30 that would be 'better' spent if you want something more than just looks, such as suspension, brakes, tyres etc etc.

I am also part of the purist club too, well at least as far as bodywork goes "KISS" - Keep it sorta standard :D :scare:

Tyga stuff while it's alright just makes the bike look like something else heh. This comes to mind for some reason.

It's a CBR150 ;)

And I mean the lines of the bike, not the actual look :poke:
