Need M.O.T and tax??
Hi guys,
Just a quick question, My NC30 needs an M.O.T as it ran out last year and the tax ran out last month. Am I right in thinking that I need to take it for its M.O.T, then as soon as it passes ride back and then tax it?
Last thing I want is to ride it to the M.O.T station and get pulled by the police saying there's no tax and M.O.T on it.
Regards.....Cal

Edit: Do you have insurance in place still?mattUKNC wrote:Make sure the MOT is pre-booked, just in case you get stopped on route.

There is something about taking the 'direct route' to the mot station, so no taking the scenic roads!

It's actually a very grey area. The police will advise you that you may take a vehicle directly to an MOT centre for a pre-booked MOT if it has expired, and even that if work is needed you may then take it to a workshop for pre-booked work to be carried out to fix any defects that cannot be rectified at the place doing the MOT. However, your insurer may also tell you that they will only cover your vehicle if it has current MOT/tax in place. And if they don't cover you because of a lack of either, I wouldn't like to be stuck in the middle if you are unlucky enough to have an accident on the way to the test station as in theory you could be nicked for no insurance! Read your small print!

Spot on, there is an allowance for taking a non-MOT'd vehicle to a test centre. I think it's actually in writing somewhere in the legislation. If you ring the non-emergency number of the local police and ask them they'll probably just tell you to get on with it, but at least you've covered yourself in the event of getting stopped.
The real embuggerance will be from next month when the tax no longer transfers with the vehicle. If the previous owner does the legal thing and sends off the V5 themself you can't use it to pay the tax. Only when the new V5 arrives with your details on can you get the tax - which took 4 weeks for mine recently.
