Engine parts compatible over the years?

Post by EmilyPip »

Hi All,
I've got an NC23/NC29 with a few issues at the moment…
The reason I write both model numbers is my frame is a 1990 NC29 series and the engine (obviously not original but in the bike when I bought it) is a 1992/93 NC23E series.
My current engine is at the point of failure/rebuild… I'd prefer to get a another engine for parts however am wondering if anyone knows how much differences there are in between the years/model numbers series?
My current one is in the NC23E-1420001 onwards numbers.. I have one available (albeit 2000kms away) in the NC23E 1300001 - 1310636 series. Unfortunately this engine is incomplete but could have the parts I need if they fit.
Anyone know?
Help SOOOOOOO Much appreciated!

not much changed on the 29 internals through the years....pistons on the later engine were the same as the RVFs but IIRC when I was doing all my engine work it was all interchangable.

Yep. Nothing changed tween the L & N model engine wise so your good to go. Your best bet is to get a copy of the parts book this will tell you if part numbers are the same. All 29s have engine prefix beginning nc23e.

so then.. according to these numbers, if I attempt to marry up the top end of my NC23E-1420001 series engine with the bottom end of an NC23E-1300001 series I shouldn't have too many problems?

Yes you should be good to go but as a precaution you can download the parts manual and double check the part numbers as needed. Find the parts book in the document library on this site.
