Wedge; you will struggle to find a site that can verify or even except a number that does not have 17 digits.
I once spent 2 days trying to verify a 12 digit no from a Dutch import Kawasaki with no success.

International-standard VINs are 17 digits long, so if a bike doesn't have a VIN in that format, none of the online checkers will be able to decipher it. I don't know anything about Yamahas, but with Hondas, the Japanese-spec bikes did not get 17-digit VINs until at least the 2000s, I think. The only source of information on pre-VIN bikes (e.g., all NC30, NC35, etc.) is the parts books, which have serial number tables in the front. I would guess that Yamahas are similar?

Ciao,

I've got the same thing going on with my ex race SP, I phoned very nice lady at Yamaha UK who said I can get a dating cert from them by sending my engine and frame numbers and some photo's of the bike and for about £40 she will send a yamaha headed dating cert,
Then I have to send that and a filled out 55/5 form, MOT, proof of insurance, to dvla and for ££55 I should get an age related plate phew.....

If you have genuine SP frames the chances are the were raced and never registered.

I have used this bloke YODI a couple of times. yodi@blueyonder.co.uk

It has been a while since I last used him though.

He can give you the reg number for a frame number *if it has ever been registered on DVLA in UK* but you need to say you are after it before the search.

You get a PDF report emailed to you, easily as good as some other online HPI's I have seen...
