Sorry to ask such a basic question but I have never had an nc before so I thought best ask before I get paranoid somethngs wrong.
I have now got the engine started up on my project but when I turn the choke off it dies and im wondering how long it takes for the engine to warm up before i can shut off the choke?
This will lead me into checking the temperature gauge, Is there anyway of doing this ?
I think the idle may need adjusting but obviously I cannot do this until the choke has been shut off so its one thing leading to another.

Forget the temp gauge, just touch the top of the top rad to see if it is warm.
Mine ticks over at 1000rpm with no choke after about 1 minute running at 1500rpm on half choke. [1150 rpm when hot]
You can turn the idle speed screw up without the engine running then adjust it when the engine is warm.
Try an 1/8 th to a 1/4 of a turn to start with.

Thank you for the info. To start I open the choke out fully then after a minute shut it off so maybe I'm being a little premature bearing in mind it's been sitting for a while and could do with a good run .
I'm assuming winding the idle out will increase the revs so it's just a matter if trial an error I suppose.

Turn adjuster in clock wise to increase engine speed.
Adjust to fast run, then turn back out to set to 11 t o 1200rpm.

Had a go but it keeps dying so it looks like a carb strip , inspection and clean as it dies off once the choke is shut off then it dosent want to restart as I'll assume it's flooded .
The top rad gets warm so I shut it to half choke, give it a minute then shut off the choke then it dies just to clarify

Sounds like pilot jets and airways need cleaning.
