57mm Pistons

Guys:

I have had nothing but poor luck with the US piston makers so far. I am wanting to get Cosworth to make our pistons, but they have a 48 piece minimum (that's 12 engines). We need 6 engines, which leaves me to find 6 others interested in our these pistons. I can't afford to spot the pistons up front, which means I need to know who would be serious about it up front (and once the ball gets rolling I would need a deposit). I am waiting for a price quote, but I am expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 USD to $1200 USD per set of 4. Do not quote me on these figures until Cosworth gets back to me with a solid quote, this is an experienced guess.

Who would be interested?

Are these going to be all the same specs or will you have the ability to manipulate pin location and such.

I am waiting to find that out. Our engines have 3 different pin locations, so I need the ability to be flxible on pin location as well. I will post this info as soon as I know it. I do need a show of hands to see if I even have enough interested parties before I go to far with them.

My next possibilities would be Pistal, Mahle and Capricorn (used to be Perfect Bore). Anybody on here have experience or heard stories of any of those brands?

In a related way... would I be asling the local machine shop for a 57mm rebore on the heads or do I tell them I want to run 57mm pistons..or is it the same (which seems obvious)

Also - I have been quoted £35 per bore +VAT - so about £160. That sound reasonable?

Of course...saving up for the postons and related bearings, gaskets and what not might take some time..but it has to be done 8-)

Cheers

Mark:

Never get cylinders bored until the pistons are in your hand (or more important the machinist) so they can measure the pistons and size the clearance directly off the finished part.
