Hi people i've just fitted some very tasty Goodridge braided hoses front and rear. I'm having serious trouble bleeding the system following the haynes manuals. Can anyone please help.

Hi, if you are having problems getting the fluid to come through to the end of the hose, try reverse bleeding them.

I used a squirty bottle (the type of thing you get glass cleaner in) and attached it to the bleed hose which was on the bleed nipple on the caliper. I then loosened off the bleed nipple and pumped fluid up the hose till I could see it at the reservoir. You will probably need to do both sides.

If you then leave it for about half an hour for all the bubbles to settle down, you should be able to bleed as normal.

If the leaver still isnt coming up firm, try pulling the brake on and holding it on with a cabletie overnight.

last post in this topic. I'm having the same problem so I'm going to reverse bleed them and failing that remove the calipers.

I had this prblem last year and some very helpfull fellow riders on this site said use a syringe to pull the fluid and air out.I used a childrens medicine syringe.Good luck.

I did this a couple days ago. my problem was the brake lever would never firm up. I realized there must have been air trapped in the master cylinder. I started to bleed the brakes thru the m/c banjo bolt..simply loosing it and tightening it like you do with the bleed nipples at the calipers. After the m/c was full of brake fliud the lever started to firm up

Ah lovely brake bleeding!

Also heres a few tips.

* Make sure to push the pistons fully back into the caliper as it'll leave less space for air bubbles to get trapped in.

* Reverse filling (push fluid from the bleed nipple -> resevoir can be useful

* Get a decent quality bleeding kit

* Crack the MC Banjo open a slight fraction with pressure on the brake lever and a rag handy to elimate any awkward air trapped up their.

* leaving the brake lever tied down for 24 hours seems to help some people force air down towards the nipple for bleeding off.

* sometimes the lever won't pump any fluid (when filling from dry), to overcome this I attatch a long piece of rubber hose to the nipple and suck while pumping the lever until I see fluid in the tube, tighten the nipple and then bleed as normal.

Using a Mity-Vac never fails. It's almost impossible to bleed brakes when fitting fresh new braided hoses using the conventional method.
You need to reverse bleed every time by sucking the brake fluid from the master cylinder to the bleed nipples.
Start bleeding the left caliper first.
Sometimes but rarely you may need to bleed the banjo at the Master Cylinder which is why all modern bikes have a bleed nipple at the M/C.

That could've been me then.

i have one of those large syringes, great job. much more uses for it than just reverse bleeding so its a worthwhile investement.
just get a syringe with a good long nib, a short one is no good
